Next meeting - May 11 - Annual Business Meeting

I volunteered to send this email regarding the Annual NOBS Business Meeting to be held on Monday, May 11th, at 11:30 at the Sylvan Street Grille in Salisbury ( http://www.restaurant-guide.com/sylvan-street-grille-salisbury.htm)  Please reply to Kate Bell  kbell@mvlc.org if you are planning on attending.

The Annual Meeting is a chance to set the agenda for the next year. Although once meeting every month, NOBS has now focused upon providing 4 meetings plus the Business Meeting. One of these meetings is the Performer’s Showcase in September and the other is New Books, generally held in January or February. That leaves 2 meetings to plan.

This morning, a very small gathering met at North Reading to discuss Community Collaborations. We took care of that topic in short time and turned our attention to NOBS. The concern is that the membership is shrinking. Perhaps 10 or so folks paid their annual dues of $10.00. Today’s meeting had 5 of us. At the Business Meeting, one order of business is to elect officers. Claire Dombrowksi has been President for 2 years; likewise Kate Bell has been Secretary and Treasurer for 2 years. We discussed what is different and important about NOBS and decided that it is still needed to provide the Performer’s Showcase and the New Books. It is needed to provide anything that NMRLS won’t or can’t. NMRLS will NEVER provide the Performer’s Showcase! So NOBS is valuable! It’s up to you all to continue the NOBS tradition.

Please come to the May 11th meeting with ideas and money! The dues is only 10 bucks and that allows NOBS to work with NMRLS to bring trainers like Barbara Andrews. The small group this morning thought of some ideas: new innovations, summer reading lists, collection development in children’s rooms in new formats, partnerships, and furnishings. Some of these NMRLS would be happy to provide but if it were better to have it as a NOBS session that is great!

Again, Please reply to Kate Bell  kbell@mvlc.org if you are planning on attending the May 11 meeting.
